“Presbyterian” Streets

Many of Charlotte’s early settlers were Scots-Irish Presbyterians, and their churches became this area’s first landmarks. That’s the reason that many of our earliest roads are named for the churches they led to: Providence Road, Sharon Road, Sugar (Sugaw) Creek Road, Sardis Road, Carmel Road, Steele Creek Road.
